The New European Landscape for Research and Innovation Funding - Invitation-Only Workshop
Sala Blu | Innovate Area, Ground Floor
May 13, 2026
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
European and Italian networks focused on research and innovation are based in Brussels. They contribute to the discussion on European policies at the most critical moments for effectively bringing Italian regional interests into the decision-making process—for example, when policy proposals are still in the planning phase and have not yet reached the desks of policymakers. Many Italian regions participate in these networks through their offices in Brussels. These same Italian regions coordinate technically and politically in Rome within the Conference of Regions to present their position in institutional and political discussions with the government, thereby ensuring that the territorial dimension is meaningfully incorporated into policy-making. The discussion on the resources of the next multiannual financial framework is now in full swing. It is therefore essential to strengthen the bridge between Brussels and Rome—and vice versa—in the discussion on future European resources for R&I.
The workshop will therefore:
take note of the European and Italian landscape regarding the future of European R&I funds as discussed in the public seminar, as well as the outlook for the Regions
gather information and materials on the activities carried out by Italian Regions within certain R&I networks based in Brussels (e.g., ERRIN, GIURI, EURADA, UnILiON, others)
will gather useful insights to facilitate a strategic approach to Italian administrations’ access to directly managed European funds.
